[Luke 16:19-31] “A rich man clothed in purple and fine linen feasted every day. At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores which the dogs came and licked. The poor man desired what fell from the rich man’s table.
The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried in Hades where he lived in torment. The rich man saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom.
He called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.’
Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received good things, and Lazarus received evil things; now he is comforted and you are in anguish.
Besides all this, there is a great chasm between us so no one is able to cross from there to here.’ The rich man begged, ‘Then I beg you, to send Lazarus to my five brothers to warn them, so they won’t come to this torment.’
Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ The rich man said, ‘My brothers won’t listen to them, but if someone from the dead goes to them they will repent.’ Abraham said, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, they will they be convinced if someone from the dead comes.’”
Join me in the prayer of Jesus,
Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be your name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven./Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, while we forgive those who trespass against us./And, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
